Wikipedia and Wikidata — when you switch them on.

Online lookups stay off until you turn them on. Capable models can then look up a subject on Wikipedia or Wikidata and cite the page. No API key, no search engine, no server of ours in the path.

    Wikipedia and Wikidata, not a search engine.

    Lookups go only to English Wikipedia and Wikidata over their public APIs. What a model looks up, your IP address, and a User-Agent that names Mortise leave the device. Answers that used a Wikipedia extract carry a source card linking the page, under CC BY-SA.

    Mortise does not retain the lookup.

    Mortise is designed so we hold nothing: no accounts, no chat logs, no lookup history. Wikipedia and Wikidata requests run from your device to the Wikimedia Foundation. We never proxy them, and the app does not keep what was looked up. Lookups stay off by default — if a question shouldn’t leave the device, leave the setting off. Wikimedia’s terms are in their privacy policy, and Mortise’s are on the privacy policy.
